Our visions for Budaka

We’re building more than infrastructure – we’re building hope and we’re building a positive future

The district of Budaka is home to well over 100,000 people. The orphans who live here have no opportunity to receive education, medical care or training for their future.

Our work is focused on creating a 'sustainable' project, utilising approximately four acres of land situated on the main road of Budaka.

This major project in Budaka involves:

Construction of a modern and sustainable school, equipped with qualified teachers to provide children with a free education

Installation of water wells across various locations, which will finally provide clean drinking water to the community

Construction of a top grade medical centre with modern equipment and qualified doctors and nurses on staff to handle the treatment of patients

Building of accommodation to provide a home for up to eight orphans and one widow to look after these children

Providing vocational training in practical and employable skills such as joinery, metal fabrication, motor bike mechanics and farming

Helping to establish local businesses which will support the running of the project in Budaka well into the future

We believe the way to bring sustainable change to Uganda is to empower its children

A NEW SCHOOL FOR BUDAKA

One of our major projects in Budaka is the building and running of a new school. The school will be built in four stages. The first stage has already been delivered, with the successful building of three classrooms for 50 students.

The planned second stage of the school building is for three more classrooms. The third stage of building will include a kitchen, dining room and store room, and the fourth stage will see three more classrooms. When complete, the new school at Budaka will educate a total of 300 children and employ nine teachers, three assistants, four cooks and a principal.

EDUCATION IN BUDAKA

It has been said that education is key to success. Today, Uganda is doing well on pupil enrollment, something supported by the government, but the reality is that many students drop out of school.

This can be for a number of reasons, including an inability to pay school fees because of poverty.

Another sad reality is that most government aided schools do not offer quality education. Quite often when students make it to the seventh grade they can barely spell their name. Combined with other social-economic problems, many poor children in Uganda do not obtain the education they need to help them live independent lives as adults.

HOW PROJECT WORLD IS HELPING

Beyond building the school in Budaka which now offers quality, free education, we have plans to also build a modern vocational institute. This will allow students who graduate from secondary school to acquire practical skills in areas such as carpentry, tailoring, computers, music, dance and drama. We want to ensure the graduates of Budaka are job creators and not job seekers.

Reducing illness, reducing travel times, and improving health

providing Budaka with clean drinking water

In many areas of Uganda clean and safe water is hard to find, especially in the rural areas where piped water has not yet emerged. The most common sources of water in these areas are ponds, dams, and small springs which are shared between people and animals creating a high risk of water related illness and putting lives at risk. To tackle this huge problem Project World is constructing multiple water wells in troubled districts such as Namayingo, Budaka, Busia, Tororo among others.

The construction of these wells will lead to a reduction in water related illnesses such as typhoid, bilharzia, cholera and others. They will also significantly reduce travel times for residents fetching water, allowing more time for productive ventures and community development.

Better hospitals mean better health

BUILDING A MEDICAL CENTRE IN BUDAKA

The fact is that many poor people in Uganda cannot access basic health care, which can lead to illness and premature death. Many rural areas do not have a hospital, or if there is a hospital, it may be many miles away and under-staffed.

Project World is committed to extending medical services to the needy in Uganda. We are planning to build a hospital which will deliver quality healthcare to the people of Budaka.
